Descend beneath the mangroves for a closer look at diodon holocanthus.
The Diodon Holocanthus is a fish found throughout the world and is commonly known as the Balloon Fish. They typically grow from 30 to 60 cm and are known for their beautiful eyes. The Balloon Fish most closely resemble their cousin the porcupine fish, but there is an easy way to tell them apart. If you look closely you will see that the Porcupine fish have spots on their fins while the Balloon Fish do not.
It is commonly known that this family of fish will "puff up" when frightened. This is done by swallowing mouthfuls of water or air so that they grow to a formidable size. This will deter most predators from attacking. This is however very bad for the fish and can be compared to a human having a heart attack or a stroke.
